5:30, we're following breaking news on "nbc 10 news today." people are being kept in their homes in camden. a drier plowed into several homes and parked cars. replacing kathleen kane. today is the day the pennsylvania senate will meet to vote on the state's next attorney general. also, traffic sickness. most of us get stuck behind cars and trucks every morning and afternoon. now a new study says it could be hazardous to our health. nobc 10 breaking news. >> we'll take you live to the scene in just awe few minutes.

good morning. welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm vai sikahema. 73 degrees right now. let's start with meteorologist bill henley and the nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. going to be a nice day, bill. >> it will be a beautiful day. plenty of sunshine, in fact, we're less than an hour away from sunrise right now. the skies are starting to lighten up a little bit. you can see it in this camera. this is the view from easton this morning. sunshine will be bright, 72 degrees now. that's quite a warmup. low 60s into the lehigh valley. low 80s and on track for the upper 80s this afternoon. the entire area will warm into the 80s, even at the shore. most of interior new jersey warms to near 90 degrees. mostly sunny skies for the suburbs, forç philadelphia, 89. the humidity lower than yesterday. and the temperature is a few degrees lower as well. 88 degrees in delaware today. i'll walk you through the forecast hour by hour to show you how quickly each part of our area will warm up when i'm back in a few minutes.

first, let's see what's happening with the traffic. jessica boyington has an update for the first alert traffic center. >> watching a big accident in camden, new jersey, where there are serious injuries, several vehicles involved. an accident investigation and cleanup under way, newton avenue and haddon avenue dealing with some problems. we're still all in the green on the schuylkill expressway. our cameras around montgomery drive, showing you that right here. eastbound and westbound okay. a 12-minute drive time from the blue route to the vine street expressway. moving into center city, speeds into the 60s. we're still watching out for the road closures for the good shepherd presbyterian church, that's still closing lansdowne avenue between 64th and 65th street. back to breaking news from camden. you heard jessica mention the debris and smashed cars litter the intersection of newton and haddon avenues. >> a car hit several homes and parked cars there. people are being kept in their homes for their own safety. monique braxton is live on the scene. tell us what's happening there.

>> hi, tracy and vai. it is hard to believe the driver of this car went to a hospital, was talking to police. they say he was conscious and we're awaiting word now on his condition. here is video at the point of impact. investigators say the driver hit a pole, then the porches here near newton and haddon. one witness says the car became airborne. it ignited at some point. the driver was ejected. debris, including the engine, glass, metal and church musical sheets rained down on the street. >> the vehicle was on fire. like i said, the cops showed up immediately afterward. he said stay away from it, stay away from the guy. probably about 20 minutes later, a bunch of other cops showed up and they cautioned off the area and had everybody step back. >> reporter: we have found three cars damaged as well as the porches here along haddon

avenue. as many as six families may be displaced until the inspectors can check out their homes to make sure they're safe. we'll be following the investigation as well as the condition of the driver. live for now in camden, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. >> 5:34. 73 degrees outside. riddled with bullets while driving. >> new jersey state police say someone opened fire on an suv along the busy atlantic city expressway. now one man is dead, four other people are hurt. nbc 10's pamela osborne is live for us this morning at farley service plaza along the expressway. pam, it does not appear to be a random crime. >> no, it does not, vai. i checked in with investigators first thing this morning. as you can imagine, there's a lot of work that has to be done. they're interviewing witnesses. they still have to talk to victims. police are saying this was not a random act and that the people involved knew one another.

a total of four people were shot inside of this white expedition. they are recovering at the hospital this morning. a second person was later found dead in the passenger seat of a car. this car found on the garden state parkway. that man had been shot asç wel. but it's unclear how. the driver of that car was taken into custody. state police tell us the shooting happened on the ac expressway, right near mile post 12 around 3:00 in the afternoon yesterday. the driver of the white suv was able to get to the egg harbor wawa where they asked for help as you can imagine. it was quite a shock for customers. >> scary. there are pretty big holes in there. i can't imagine how they made it with just rims left on the car. you can see when they opened the doors, it looked like a blood bath in there. it was a little scary. >> police aren't sure if the people in the suv and car were shooting at each other or if there was another vehicle involved. right near the main crime scene, police say they found a number of weapons they believe are

connected to that shooting. so far, police have not identified the victims but we do know they're all under the age of 40. they're investigate iing and so far, no motive has been released. reporting at the state police barracks in farley, pamela as born, nbc 10 news. new this morning, police in wilmington are searching for a driver who crashed a car after a chase. skyforce 10 was over the scene at 9th and harrison streets. new castle county police were pursuing the vehicle when it crashed into a parked car. we're working to get more details on the chase and the driver who took off. to south philadelphia, police arrested two people in a car that slammed into this auto zone store. they chased the car after the driver took off in yeadon last night. a woman walking into the store was hurt but is expected to be okay. today the pennsylvania senate will reconvene to vote on a new attorney general.

governor tom wolf nominated bruce beemer to take over the post. he's a former top aide to kathleen kane who resigned as attorney general earlier this month. she was tried and convicted of leaking grand jury information and then lying about it under oath. the jury found her guilty on all charges including conspiracy, perjury and obstruction of justice. 5:37. in 23d, two children are recovering after one of them playing with a gun accidentally shot both. nbc 10 on the scene on edding terrace in south philadelphia. police told us a 13-year-old boy had the gun when it went off hitting himself in the hand and a 12-year-old girl in the knee. both children are listed in stable condition at the hospital. no word on who owned the gun or if charges will be filed. also new this morning, police believe a burglary suspect in bucks county is responsible for a string of other break-ins. steven herman faces charges after a burglary last thursday. he was arrested when stolen items were traced to a pawn shop.

police say they're checking dnas in other robberies in several townships. swastikas were spray paint at a park enjoyed by jewish citizens. nine of them were found sprayed near the horseshoe pit at echo lake park. police say the vandalism happened sometime in the last week. a warning for pet owners in delaware county. three raccoons tested positive for rabies this month along in haverford township. they were found near linwood elementary, buck and bambi lanes and pembe road.ç keep your pets on a leash outside, don't feed your dog or cat outdoors and never try to feed a wild animal. also, keep tamper-proof lids on your garbage can so animals aren't attracted to your property. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 22 minutes before 6:00. beautiful view of boathouse row,

all lit up this morning. the skies will be filled with sunshine this afternoon. it will be a warm day today. it's running cooler this morning for most areas. 73 degrees in philadelphia. that's about where we were yesterday at this time. skies are clear, sunshine and a comfortable afternoon. 79 degrees at 10:00. 84 degrees at noontime. upper 80s. we will not see the 90s today for a change. the humidity will be running lower through the day. the suburbs, you'll see sunny skies there as well. a few scattered clouds possible this afternoon. but mainly sunshine, 81 degrees at noontime. into the middle 80s with a light northerly wind to keep the humidity in check during the day today. the lehigh valley, plenty of sunshine there, too. temperatures climbing from the low 60s this morning into the middle 70s, by 10:00 this morning and then 80s this afternoon. very little wind will lead to that quick warmup. 85 degrees at 4:00 today. for new jersey, inland areas, we'll see a warm afternoon,

after starting off in the 60s, 70s by 8:00. then closer to the 80 degrees mark at 10:00, into the 80s this afternoon with partly sunny skies this afternoon, 85 degrees at 4:00. meantime, at the shore, the weather will be just fine. the seas will be getting rough. we're watching a couple tropical disturbances. one of them will produce rough seas and a rip current risk. the weather, looking good. to start with, 80 degrees at 10:00. it's into the low 80s with the wind coming off the ocean. the nice sea breeze blowing at the shore. for delaware, right now it's 69 degrees. in wilmington, 73 degrees is where we'll be at 8:00 this morning and add ten to that for your lunch time temperature of 83. that same easterly wind becomes more northerly this afternoon. that will help keep the humidity lower for northern delaware. it's still on the high side for central delaware right now. sunny skies for delaware. there are showers in our future. i'll take a look at when you can

decision 2016 returns to pennsylvania today. hillary clinton's running mate, tim kaine, will make two campaign stops in the keystone state. the democratic virginia senator is scheduled to stump in erie and lancaster. tomorrow he'll be in bethlehem at an organizing event at the hanover township community center. as for clinton herself, "the new york times" reports she's preparing to debate donald trump by researching his possible weaknesses. the report says clinton advisers are talking to trump's ghost writer of his best selling book "the art of the deal." they're looking for insight about trump's deepest

insecurities that clinton can use as a weapon during the debate. her team is also getting advice from psychology experts to measure how trump may respond to attacks on stage. the first clinton/trump debate is scheduled for september 26th. clinton's top adviser, huma abedin is separating from her husband, former new york congressman anthony weiner in light of a sexting scandal. >> "the new york post" claims weiner exchanged explicit photos with another woman. he resigned from congress in 2011 after his first sexting scandal. two years later, a similar scandal derailed his came pain for new york city mayor. abedin released this statement, after long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, i have made the decision to separate from my husband. anthony an i remain devoted to

no showers until later in the week. right now we're watching the temperatures fall. low 60s, the lehigh valley and the suburbs. delaware is at 69 degrees and 70 degrees in south jersey. philadelphia is 73 degrees. there are a range of temperatures in the suburbs. 63 degrees in unionville. 63 also in malvern right now. west chester is at 67 degrees. and new hope has dropped to 59 degrees this morning. indeed, the humidity is lower. but with clear skies, we are going to see plenty of sunshine. and it will be up in less than 40 minutes. bright sunny skies today. but we're watching this storm to the south. a tropical system that has yet to strengthen but strong enough to produce rip currents along the coastline. and that's the first one. the other one that's coming together is in the gulf of mexico. we'll see a one-two rip current punch for our area as the tropics are heating up. it's forecast to become a tropical storm. minimal tropical storm. even if that doesn't happen, it

will stay offshore. come close enough to our area as it heads out to sea to produce rip currents over the next several days. then the next system could very well strengthen in a tropical storm later today. if that happens, it could become a stronger tropical storm. head across the florida peninsula and then out to sea. again, missing our area. coming close enough to keep a rip current risk for our area right on into sunday morning. as it pulls away from our area into monday, labor day. so be on the lookout along the coast. inland, the temperatures today, near 90 degrees this afternoon. then up to 90 tomorrow. the humidity is low today. starts creeping back into the area tomorrow. need some rainfall. there's a chance we'll get showers and a possibility of a thunderstorm late wednesday night and thursday. not a lot of rain here. and then much cooler and comfortable, a breath of fresh air for friday, saturday and sunday. even labor day monday will warm

david was proud to be an american soldier. and i know i'm prejudiced because he was my son, but i don't think he had a mean bone in his body. there is not a day that i don't think about david. when i saw donald trump attack another gold star mother, i felt such a sense of outrage. "she was standing there, she had nothing to say..." if donald trump cannot respect a gold star family, then why would anyone in america think he would respect them.
